A Long Road
Christ left Jerusalem around August, heading north. At some point on the way, He started telling his disciples that he was going to be killed. (Matt 16:21) Later, as they were returning to Jerusalem, He became more specific.
(Matt 20:17–19) And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.”
Can you imagine how you would have reacted to know far ahead that you would be killed in such a horrible way?
Jesus was doing His Father’s will. (John 12:30-32) Jesus answered and said, “This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
How great a love Christ had for us!
